Blind Veterans UK believes that no one who has served their country should have to battle blindness alone.

We offer help and support to blind ex-Service men and women.

See the criteria below to find out if we can help you or someone you know.

To join Blind Veterans UK as a member and qualify for our support, you need to meet two criteria:

1. Military service

By this we mean:

  • The UK Regular Armed Forces, including National Service, or
  • Service during the Second World War in the Merchant Navy or Polish/Indian forces under British command

As a reservist, you need to have either:

  • Completed at least one year's satisfactory service after training (qualified for bounty), or
  • Served for less time if blinded on duty, or
  • Served during the Second World War in the merchant navy, or Polish forces under British command

2. Sight loss criteria

We have our own criteria for the level of sight loss you need to have, which our doctors can assess accurately. It doesn't matter how or when your sight loss was caused, or whether you were on active service at the time.

If you have any questions about our criteria, just call our membership department on 0800 389 7979 for more information.

We're sorry, but we can't offer membership to anyone suffering from dementia, Alzheimer's disease or related conditions.
