Welfare

We offer welfare support across the UK
We offer welfare support across the UK

Our regional welfare and grants team help find support for members, both from within Blind Veterans UK and from other organisations. Based throughout the UK, they're our members' main point of contact with our charity. They work together with members to help them stay independent and enjoy their quality of life. Our experienced welfare team gives support and advice on:

  • Care and health
  • Finance, benefits and grants
  • Property and housing
  • Access to training and equipment

We start with an initial assessment, which we keep up to date as circumstances change. After this evaluation, we help people access:

  • Further training and services
  • Financial help
  • Home modifications
  • Respite care and holiday breaks

Funding and grants

Our grants team look after the funding and grants we award. These help members buy specialist equipment, goods and services to help live well. For example, we often help people buy reading enabling equipment or computers.

How to apply to Blind Veterans UK

For someone to join Blind Veterans UK they need to have done National Service or served in the Armed Forces, and have significant sight loss. It doesn't matter to us why someone's vision is impaired or when they lost their sight. Many of our members have lost their sight years after their service, due to age or illness.

We believe that no one who has served their country should have to battle blindness alone.
