An opportunity has arisen for a Community Support Worker on a fixed term contract to cover maternity in our Lancashire and Cumbria community.

Blind Veterans UK believes that no one who has served our country should have to battle blindness alone. We offer blind veterans access to the highest quality of services to help them discover life beyond sight loss.

The number of veterans we help is increasing rapidly as we implement our overall strategy to embed a national footprint and take our exceptional services to the beneficiary. To enable us to deliver these services, we are expanding our community teams and are looking for skilled and experienced individuals to provide on-going assessment and support to our beneficiaries in their homes and communities. 

The role of Community Support Worker includes assessing need for advice and information, rehabilitation and training, care support and financial assistance. Our aim is to work in conjunction with statutory and voluntary agencies to help our members (service users) maximise their independence.

We are looking for committed and resourceful individuals who will follow a rigorous case management process and adhere to safeguarding and risk management procedures, keeping a positive attitude and demonstrating a collaborative, resourceful and confidential approach.

This role will also involve creating and maintaining community events and opportunities for rehabilitation. It is an autonomous role but you will be an integral member of a wider team.

The ideal applicant will have excellent organisational and communication skills, experience of using case management system to record interventions and have a good understanding of how to maintain professional relationships with our members. Effective IT skills are essential including a good working knowledge of the MS Office suite and experience of using databases.

This post is fixed term to cover a period of maternity leave.

This post is subject to enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB).

The post will be based from home with extensive travel across the Community.
