Earlier this week we were delighted to hold a parliamentary event at the House of Lords to launch our new strategy.

The occasion, which was kindly sponsored by Annington Ltd, was a chance for us to raise awareness of our work and our new community-based model with MPs, health professionals and our friends from the sight loss and military sectors.

Guests also had the opportunity to hear from The Rt. Hon the Baroness Liddell of Coatdyke, and meet a number of the inspirational blind veterans we support.

Our new strategy is all about bringing our services to blind veterans in their local communities, so that everyone who has served and is now living with sight loss can access our support. This is particularly important given we know that in five years’ time more than 40 per cent of the blind veterans we support will be over 90.

Helen Wheatley, our regional manager for the North West, says:

"It was brilliant to be joined by so many people for this parliamentary event to celebrate our work in communities across the country. As the average age of the veterans we support is rising, we are making sure our services evolve so that we can provide practical and emotional support closer to home."
