It’s not every day that you get to visit the Mayor’s Parlour but seven of our Rugby blind veterans had the chance to do just that when they were welcomed in by Councillor Tom Mahoney, Mayor of Rugby, for Armed Forces Week.

Cllr Mahoney, who served in the Queen’s Own Hussars cavalry regiment, has made ‘service’ the theme of his Mayoral year and said he was delighted to meet some of our inspirational blind veterans from the local area:

"It was a pleasure to welcome members of the charity to the parlour and find out more about the charity’s work."

Tina Browne, our Community Team Leader for Warwickshire says:

"Our blind veterans were delighted to meet with Cllr Mahoney to discuss the support on offer to vision-impaired ex-Service men and women in the local community and we look forward to working closely together in the future."

Our blind veteran Merve, who served in the Royal Signals and attended the event, says:

"It was a day I will never forget. Cllr Mahoney was so charming and sensitive, it was a great honour to meet him and a beautiful expression of thanks by Rugby Borough."
