Blind Veterans UK have partnered up with a local Brighton arts groups Zap Art and inroads productions. We have joined forces to explore the opportunity of developing a second project with them called 'The Regent Dancehall' and 'Winter Garden' in Brighton & Eastbourne.
The project will explore the social mores and gender etiquette of partner dancing in the 1950's, and will celebrate the history of The Winter Garden in Eastbourne and the Regent Dancehall in Brighton, which used to be located where the large Boot's store is now.
The project will culminate in two performance events in November 2013 in Brighton and April 2014 in Eastbourne.
So far Blind Veterans UK staff and members took part in a dance session and a writing session. In the near future we will attedn a tea dance and potentially will be hosting our own one in the lounge at our Brighton centre. As usual, at the Brighton centre we will hold ongoing art sessions creating dance based sculptures.
This partnership will enable members of Blind Veterans UK to work with local students and school groups to create intergenerational activities such as talks, exhibitions, oral history training, heritage learning and creative art, drama and writing workshops.
