A former Royal Air Force Junior Technician from Littlehampton will be walking 145 miles along the Cornish coast over seven days this June for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Steve Green, 50, will start at the war memorial in Newquay on Saturday 4 June 2016 and walk 145 miles via St Agnes, St Ives, Penzance and Coverack along the Cornish coastal path to finish in Pendennis Castle in Falmouth on Friday 10 June 2016.

Steve says: "This is my forth long distance walk I've done for a military charity and decided on Cornwall as it's a bit of a challenge and they sell cider!."

Steve joined the RAF in 1983 and become an Aircraft Technician working on Canberra and Tornado F3 aircraft. He left the RAF after 12 years of Service in 1995.

Steve decided to raise money and awareness for Blind Veterans UK after he learned that a friend from his former Squadron is receiving help and support from the charity.

Steve says: "I didn't know much about Blind Veterans UK until my friend told me about them. The support they've given him has been great and I'm keen to raise as much money as possible for them."

Blind Veterans UK was founded in 1915 and the charity's initial purpose was to help and support soldiers blinded in the First World War. But the organisation has gone on to support more than 35,000 blind veterans and their families, spanning the Second World War to recent conflicts including Iraq and Afghanistan.

For more than a century, the charity has been providing vital free training, rehabilitation, equipment and emotional support to blind and vision-impaired veterans no matter when they served or how they lost their sight.

Steve enjoys walking and has completed several walks previously, including in France for the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings and a 100 mile walk in the Scottish Highlands over six days. Now he's taking on the Cornish Coast with a 145 miles walk and hoping to raise as much as possible for Blind Veterans UK.

He says: "I mostly hope that the sun will be out whilst walking but it should be a great challenge."
