The 37th Metro Newspaper Athletics Championships is taking place this year on Saturday 15th June at Mile End Stadium in East London. Action for Blind people are on board for this years championships but they are also keen for Blind Veterans UK members to sign up to take part!
The Metro Athletics Championships will have a full track and field competition for over 100 vision impaired athletes. Financial assistance is provided for teams travelling from outside of London. You will need to contact the games organisers.
The programme will be run under IBSA/IAAF rules and is open to males and females of all ages. Every competitor will receive a free T-shirt along with either a medal or a performance certificate. A free packed lunch will be provided for all competitors, coaches, officials and escorts.
The track (Mile End Stadium) and the accommodation (Queen Mary University) are within walking distance of Mile End Tube Station (Central and District line). The organisers are expecting some very fast times this year because of the newly laid track at Mile End! Guide Runners may be arranged, with advance notice but you will need to provide an estimate of your track times.
Electronic timing will be used on all track races.
There will also be a Fun Relay for all competitors during the afternoon including parents and coaches.
• Under 14 and Under 17 athletes may take part in up to four individual events in any one day under UKA rules.
• Senior Athletes may take part in a maximum of 5 events. These will consist of either 3 track and 2 field, or 2 track and 3 field on the day.
• Under 17 and Senior B3 and B4 athletes are reminded that competition rules do not allow any concessions to assist performance.
• All b1 athletes must provide and use their own shades.
The Athletics Competitions are solely for registered blind and visually impaired people. Guest competitors are welcome but no medals or certificates can be awarded. To enter please download the entry form, complete, print and return the necessary information to:

The closing date for entries and accommodation is Friday 24th May 2013 (if you require accommodation, the organisers would like to know well in advance of this date, preferably in April, so no-one is disappointed.
Entry is free of charge.
This will be available on Friday and Saturday night. The event is using the Queen Mary University of London at Mile End like in previous years.
