On 12 August, people were given the lucky chance to get their hands on a piece of Olympic games history – the torch!

The iconic gold torch was donated to Harrow Council by Blind Veterans UK beneficiary and Olympic torchbearer Simon Brown, for people to have their photos taken with it in exchange for a donation to Blind Veterans UK.

Simon Brown said "After I bought my torch I knew that I wanted to use it to help raise money. This is a charity that really supported me after my injury and I really wanted to thank them."

West Harrow ward councillor, Kairul Kareema Marikar, who is involved with raising money for supporting soldiers said:

"I think that this was such a brilliant fundraising idea. Simon is a very deserving torchbearer and I hope that people will continue to donate to this very worthy cause."

The event raised £523, with almost 150 people taking part. Thank you to everyone who came along and showed their support.
