Run the Cardiff Half Marathon and support Welsh blind veterans

Blind Veterans UK has 20 guaranteed places up for grabs in the Cardiff Half Marathon, on 5 October 2014. Places cost just £20 with runners asked to raise £250 minimum sponsorship for the charity.

Cwmbran resident Catherine Currier (43) works as an administrator for NHS Wales and completed the race for Blind Veterans UK last year. Catherine is calling on runners to sign up for this year's race and says: "I recommend anyone interested in running to take part in the Cardiff Half Marathon and raise money for blind military veterans. I was inspired to support the charity after learning they have a centre in Llandudno that provides support for veterans in Wales.

"Running for Blind Veterans UK made me feel part of a team and was lots of fun, whilst knowing at the same time that I was raising funds and helping those who have served our country and are faced by the challenge of sight loss.

"The Cardiff Half Marathon is so well organised and I was overwhelmed by the support from the crowds. I saw a different side to the city I know so well, and thankfully most of the route is quite flat so whilst being a tough challenge, I also was able to enjoy the run and take in the beautiful sites of our capital city in the autumnal sunshine."

Our Events Officer, Victoria Marshall, said: "We'd like to hear from anyone who is looking for a guaranteed place in the Cardiff Half Marathon - or anyone who has a place but hasn't yet chosen a charity. We offer our team of runners lots of support, a free, exclusive Blind Veterans UK running vest to wear on the day and assistance plus the knowledge that the money they raise will make a real difference to the lives of blind ex-Service men and women."

The route takes runners past the capital's most iconic landmarks including Cardiff Castle, Cardiff City Stadium, Penarth Marina, Cardiff Bay and the Wales Millennium Centre making it a truly memorable day.
