Blind Veterans UK, the charity for blind ex-Service men and women, is deeply saddened by the tragic news that Capt Stephen Healey of 1 Royal Welsh Battalion has been killed on duty in Afghanistan.

The 1 Royal Welsh forged a very strong relationship with Blind Veterans UK because of the support that the charity provided to returning injured heroes. Earlier this year, Capt Healey organised a fundraising walk, with members of the Battalion wearing blindfolds, from the barracks in Chester to the charity's rehabilitation and training centre in Llandudno.

Robert Leader, Chief Executive of Blind Veterans UK, said "Capt Healey was a very impressive young man who did so much to help support blind veterans. His loss will be greatly felt.  Our sympathy goes out to his family, friends and Battalion at this very sad time".
