A woman from Suffolk is taking on the London Marathon this April for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.
Fran Williams, 51 and from Great Thurlow, has run the London Marathon four times before and sees it as way to give back to charity.
Fran's parents both served in the Second World War which spurred her on to raise money for Blind Veterans UK. Fran's father served as a pilot flying Lancaster bombers, and her mother worked at Bletchley Park, the code breaking centre in Milton Keynes.
Fran says: "Blind Veterans UK is a fantastic charity. I think the work they do is outstanding, bringing hope and opportunities to such brave people who served our country.
"I couldn't think of a more worthy charity to support and hope I can help in some way to raise as much money as I can."
Fran has been training hard after coming back from a leg injury. Having recently undertaken a large move from the North to the East, Fran has been finding new running routes in her local area, and has joined a running club, which has fuelled her determination.
She says: "I'm very excited and always nervous to run a race! No matter how much training you do, you never feel you've done enough but then on the day you just go for it and give it your all."
Fran is determined to achieve her goal of completing the London Marathon in four hours and 30 minutes for Blind Veterans UK. She adds: "If I'm really lucky four hours and 15 minutes."
The Virgin London Marathon is one of the most popular marathons in the world. During the race, starting in Greenwich Park and finishing on The Mall, participants will experience a beautiful 26.2 mile route past London's most magnificent landmarks.
Registration for the London Marathon 2016 has now closed, but you can apply for a place on the Blind Veterans UK team in 2017. The registration fee is £45 and with a minimum sponsorship pledge of £2,000. You will receive a Blind Veterans UK running vest for the London Marathon, a fundraising guide, and full support to help you reach your goal.
