As a volunteer for Blind Veterans UK, you can make a real difference as Claire Brewer found out, when she began visiting our veteran Len in March 2017.

Len, who sadly passed away in April this year, was mainly housebound for the last few years of his life, with his wife Sue acting as his carer – a very demanding role, which created tremendous pressure. By the time Claire was introduced to the couple Sue was finding it hard to cope.

Everything changed when Claire started as a Home Visitor, and in Sue’s words,

“It felt like Claire was sent from Heaven to help us through. The respite from Claire's visits brought some light into both of our lives when we felt so much had been taken from us…she changed our lives.”

Claire helped Len to the very end, and has remained close friends with Sue to this day, often calling in to visit her and keep their friendship strong. Without Claire in their lives as a Blind Veterans UK volunteer, this story might have had a very different ending.

It doesn’t take much of your time to be like Claire and visit one of our veterans. Even the simplest interaction will lift their day, and give them something to look forward to. Become a Blind Veterans UK volunteer today, and see what a difference you can make to someone who gave part of their life for their country.
