Archery Companion: Newport, Gwent (no archery experience required!)
- A few hours weekly or fortnightly
- Newport, Gwent
We are looking for a volunteer to support one of our blind archers! Having joined the Royal Engineers straight after school, our veteran went on to serve in Northern Ireland, the Falkland Islands and Germany until he was discharged as a Corporal. Married with 2 teenagers, our veteran enjoys listening to the TV and audio books. He also has a passion for archery and would benefit hugely from a volunteer who could transport and accompany him to his archery club.
By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
