Home Visitor: Bognor Regis, West Sussex
- A few hours once a month
- Bognor Regis, West Sussex
After serving in the RAF as Aircraftman 1st Class, our veteran had an interesting second career as an engineer for Mercedes Benz. Before losing his sight our veteran loved driving and cycling, and spent a lot of his spare time reading. Now in his late 80s, he spends a lot of time listening to Classic FM and the TV. He is a very independent man but would benefit hugely if he had a friendly volunteer to escort him to the bank once a month; preferably by car.
By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and have access to a car. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
