Exercise Buddy: Sudbury, Suffolk

Time Commitment
A few hours weekly
Sudbury, Suffolk

Our RAF veteran in Sudbury is looking for an active and enthusiastic volunteer to help him regain his fitness by accompanying him on walks and trips to the gym. He had a fascinating military service, having joined the Paratroopers before getting involved with adventure training and outdoor activities. Following his discharge, he set up his own parachute school in Kent, as well as teaching parachuting in India, Spain and Ireland. Having suffered a stroke, he lost his sight in 2009 but has not let that hold him back and is now even part of the Blind Veterans UK Ski Team. If you could spare a few hours a week to support this well humoured man, we’d love to hear from you.

By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.

Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
