Home Visitor: Beccles, Suffolk

Our veteran has had an interesting time in the military, having served in the UK and Germany as a Gunner with the British Army Royal Artillery. Before losing his sight, he worked on steam locomotives and had an interest in model making and cross stitch. Now in his mid-80s, he would like a volunteer to visit him in his home and chat to his about the football among other things. He would also like to go on local walks when the weather is good.
By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. This would also provide important respite for his wife, his main carer. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
