Home Visitor: Beckenham, Kent

Time Commitment
A few hours weekly
Location
Beckenham, Kent

We are looking for a friendly volunteer to visit our female Army veteran in Beckenham. Having joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service in 1942, she served in the War Ministry in London before being discharged when she became pregnant. Now in her late-90s and widowed, she spends her time listening to audio books and loves musicals. She is fit and mobile with her white cane, but suffers from loneliness. She would benefit hugely from a volunteer who could pop by and brighten up her day.

By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.

Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
