Home Visitor: Bognor Regis, W Sussex

Time Commitment
A few hours weekly
Location
Bognor Regis, W Sussex

We are looking for a friendly volunteer to visit our Army veteran in Bognor Regis. Having joined the Royal Artillery in 1940, our veteran was quickly transferred to the Royal Army Educational Corps when they discovered that he was a fully-qualified teacher! After his discharge in 1946, he taught carpentry and handicrafts at a London school. Now widowed and approaching his 100th birthday, he can feel quite lonely but would love to have someone to talk to. He would benefit hugely from a volunteer who could pop by to say hello and brighten up his day.

By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.

Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
