Home Visitor: Borehamwood, Hertfordshire
- 1-2 Hours Weekly
We are looking for a friendly volunteer to visit our veteran at home. Now in his late 80’s, he left school at 14 and joined the officer cadet corps where he became a messenger boy for the Home Guard as well as working in silk printer’s. At the age of 17, he joined the Argyll & Southern Highlanders serving in Egypt, Palestine and Hong Kong. His interests included military history, collecting military memorabilia and attending antique fairs. He now spends much of his time doing personal admin.
By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
