Home Visitor: Brandon, Suffolk

Time Commitment
A few hours weekly or fortnightly
Location
Brandon, Suffolk

We are looking for a volunteer to visit our Brandon-based veteran who served in the Women's Royal Navy Service as an Air Mechanic. Now in her mid-80s, our veteran is very intelligent and likes to keep mentally stimulated. At the moment she is studying a course in Shakespeare! She also has a passion for nature and local history. She would like a volunteer to go shopping with and have stimulating conversations with.

By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.

Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
