Time Commitment
A few hours weekly
Location
Frinton-on-Sea, Essex

Our Royal Engineers veteran had a fascinating career in the military, fighting in the Normandy invasion through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Before losing his sight he enjoy fishing and yoga; now in his 90s, he spends his time listening to the radio and TV. With limited family in his local area, he would love a volunteer to visit him and take him out in his wheelchair to get some fresh air and have a change of environment.

By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.

Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
