Could you help make life a little easier for our ex-Army veteran who has recently been given a scanner to help him read letters, newspapers and documents? He would benefit greatly from a volunteer helping him to become familiar with the scanner and also to help him use his computer a little more than he is able to at the moment. We will provide you with training on the equipment of you require it. Operation of the scanner is straightforward to learn. Your input and social interaction would make such a difference to this gentleman.
By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
