Home Visitor: Maidstone, Kent
- A few hours weekly
- Maidstone, Kent
We are looking for a friendly volunteer to visit our veteran in Kent. She had a very enjoyable time in her 8 years with the Territorial Army 77 Surrey Company in the 60s. After her discharge as Corporal, she then focused her attention to dog breeding!
Before losing her sight, our veteran was very keen on computers and misses being able to play computer games. She now spends her time looking after her Airedale dogs and listening to audio books. Sadly her partner is unable to push her wheelchair, so she would benefit hugely from a reliable volunteer who could help her get out the house and provide some social stimulation.
By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
