Home Visitor: Purley, Surrey
- A few hours weekly
- Purley, Surrey
We are looking for a friendly volunteer to visit our veteran in Purley. Having joined the RAF in 1942, he trained as a pilot in Arizona and flew USAF Stipsons & Harvards. He moved back to the UK after the war and worked as a Surveyor. Now in his 90s, he lives with his daughter; however, the rest of his family lives all over the world and he can feel lonely, so he would love someone outside of the family to talk to.
By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
