Home Visitor: Rotherhithe, London
- A few hours weekly
- Rotherhithe, London
We are looking for a friendly volunteer to visit our veteran living in the heart of London. Having trained as a marine engineer, he joined the Royal Artillery in 1950, serving in Korea and Malaysia before transferring to the Royal Engineers. After being discharged, he spent the rest of his career in the oil industry.
Now in his 80s, he spends his time listening to the radio and audio books, and attends a musical recital every other week. He is widowed and has limited family in the area, so would benefit hugely from a reliable volunteer who could visit him and have a chat with him.
By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
