We are looking for a friendly, male volunteer to visit our veteran in Rugby. Having served in the RAF, our veteran then returned to the UK and played in the Wales Rugby Team! Now in his mid-80s, our veteran is a member of The English Blind Golfing Association and plays regularly. He is hoping to become more confident using a computer so would love a volunteer who could help him out with this or who would like to go and play golf with him. With his wife now living in a care home, he feels increasingly lonely, so would benefit hugely from the company.
By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
