Home Visitor: Southwick, W Sussex
- A few hours weekly
- Southwick, W Sussex
We are looking for a friendly volunteer to visit our Royal Marines veteran in Southwick. Having joined the Army in Black Watch, he later transferred to the Marines and then the Parachute Regiment, serving in the UK, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Palestine. Before losing his sight, he played ice hockey. Now in his late-70s, he plays golf, is very interested in WWII history and enjoys playing the guitar. He recently lost his wife and has been feeling lonely, so would benefit hugely from a friendly face to pop by once a week and provide company.
By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
