Could you visit a blind national service veteran living in Stoke on Trent who is suffering from loneliness? By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans and by this gentleman in particular. The emphasis for this voluntary role is on providing company and chat over a cup of tea. Our veteran is also keen to get out an about a little more; mainly short outings but this would really boost his confidence and give him something to look forward to. Ideally you will be available for a couple of hours one morning or afternoon a week or fortnight.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
