We are looking for a friendly volunteer to visit our RAF veteran based in Stourbridge. Having joined the RAF straight after school aged 18, our veteran had an interesting military career, serving in Egypt and the UK as a wireless mechanic. Prior to losing his sight, our veteran enjoyed driving, reading and sports. Now in his mid-70s, he is fit and mobile and enjoys walking as well as listening to audio books and newspapers. Would benefit hugely from a patient volunteer who could take him out and about for walks in the local area.
By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
