Home Visitor: Worthing, West Sussex

Time Commitment
A few hours weekly
Worthing, East Sussex

We are looking for a friendly volunteer to visit our veteran in Worthing. Having joined the Royal West Kent regiment in 1938, our veteran manned coastal defences in Sussex and the Isle of Wight. He then transferred to the Royal Artillery and was posted in India with the Parachute Regiment before being discharged in 1959 after losing his hearing due to gunfire.

He is a practical man and had a great love of woodwork. Now in his mid-90s, he is largely housebound and unable to get out and about. He is also unable to see his family regularly so would love a reliable volunteer who could visit him at home and brighten up his day!

By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.

Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
