Home Visitor: Writtle, Chelmsford, Essex

Time Commitment
A few hours weekly
Chelmsford, Essex

Our Royal Navy veteran had an interesting time serving on Hunt and Battle Class Destroyers in the North Sea, South East Asia, Colombo and the Isle of Man. He used to enjoy photography, but since losing his sight has been operating his own online radio system, chatting to people all over the world. He also enjoys talking thriller books and listening to the TV (American NCIS is his favourite!). He would like a volunteer with a good sense of humour to visit him in his home and take him on occasional outings when the weather is good. This would be ideal for a volunteer with a Naval connection or an interest in the Navy.

By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.

Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
