Home Visitor/Driver: Wisbech, Cambridgeshire

Time Commitment
1-2 Hours Weekly
Location
Wisbech, Cambridgeshire

We are looking for a friendly volunteer/Driver who can visit our veteran and take him out on a nice day. Now in his late 90’s, he joined the Somerset Light Infantry in June 1940; later served in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and subsequently to the REME servicing equipment in a Light Aid Detachment. Prior to his discharge in 1946, he went to France just after D-Day and fought through to Germany. Prior to losing his sight, he was a DIY enthusiast and was proud to build a sports car from scratch. Although with difficulty, he is still determined to learn new techniques on his PC and loves the seaside.

By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.

Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
