Home Visitor/Outing Companion: Wellingborough, Northamptonshire
- 1-2 Hours Weekly
- Wellingborough, Northamptonshire
Our veteran served in the Royal Horseguards regiment of the Army. Now in his late 80’s, widowed and registered ‘partially sight impaired’, he does not get out much or see his family as they moved away from Wellingborough. Before losing his sight, he enjoyed gardening. It would make a huge difference to have a friendly volunteer who can visit and take him out to brighten his day.
By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
