Outings Companion: Hadleigh, Ipswich

Time Commitment
A few hours weekly
Hadleigh, Ipswich

Our blind RAF veteran would benefit hugely from a volunteer who could help him get out of the house! Having served with the RAF as ground crew in the 1960s in Gibraltar, he then went on to work in civil aviation at Heathrow and East Midlands airports. He is an independent man, but now in his late-70s with total sight loss, he struggles to get out and about as much as he would like to. He would love someone who could take him out for lunch or to the seaside. He would also like some practical support with tasks like reading the mail.

By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.

Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
