Outings Companion: Midsomer Norton/Radstock

Time Commitment
A few hours weekly or fortnightly
Location
Midsomer Norton/Radstock, Somerset

We are looking for a volunteer to help our RAF veteran get out and about in his local area. Having joined the RAF as part of National Service in 1954, he was discharged as a Junior Technician in 1956. Now in his 80s and sadly a widower, our veteran lives alone but is still relatively mobile. Would love a volunteer to take him out each month to the garden centre and other places of local interest.

By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.

Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
