Swimming Companion: Aldershot, Hampshire
Could you help our veteran get to his local pool?
- 1 -2 hours per week
- Aldershot, Hampshire
We are looking for a friendly and active volunteer to visit our RAF veteran and take him to the local swimming pool in Aldershot! Now in his early-80s, our veteran is mobile but due to his sight loss, he cannot leave the house without an escort, so spends a lot of his time listening to audio books. He loves swimming so would love to get back into it, so a friendly volunteer who could take him down to the pool would be a huge help!
By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training (including wheelchair handling), induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
