Walking Companion: Oldbury, West Midlands
- A few hours weekly
- Walking Companion: Oldbury, West Midlands
Our Oldbury based RAF veteran would love a volunteer to escort him on walks and talk to. Having lost his sight over 40 years ago, our veteran now has declining hearing which has caused him to lose a lot of confidence. He would love a volunteer to help build his confidence back up by getting him out the house for an hour or so a week for a walk and get some fresh air.
By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day to day lives.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
