Eligibility checker

To qualify for support, you must have a vision impairment and have served in:

the UK Armed Forces, including National Service or the Reserves
Polish or Indian forces under British command
the Merchant Navy, deployed within a combat zone in direct support of UK military forces
the emergency services (police, fire brigade or ambulance), and lost your sight while on duty

If you do not meet our criteria, there are several other organisations that may be able to help you. Please contact the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) helpline by phoning 0303 123 9999, emailing helpline@rnib.org.uk or say “Alexa, call RNIB helpline” to an Alexa-enabled device. The RNIB provides expert advice for vision-impaired people. You can also find support in your local area through the RNIB Sightline Directory.

Blind Veterans UK is a charity that supports vision-impaired ex-Servicemen and women, regardless of how or when they lost their sight. We also support emergency service workers, but only if they lost their sight on duty.
