Connections through befriending

After losing his wife and relocating to a new town, 93-year-old blind veteran Alec faced a profound shift in his life. Despite the challenges of sight loss and grief, Alec’s resilient spirit found new light through his friendship with volunteer Mike, who began supporting him in 2023. 

During a regular catch up with his support worker, 91 year old blind veteran Kevin mentioned that he was keen to get out and about as much as possible, but would benefit from support due to his limited vision. Just a few weeks later, he was introduced to Morgan who is just 20 years old and the two are now firm friends enjoying regular outings.

Volunteer Susanne is a befriender to blind veteran Michael. She visits Michael every week and enjoys the time out from an otherwise busy life. Susanne says that her and Michael are perfect match for each other, sharing the same sense of humour and laughing throughout their time together.
