Our Residential Care Manager Blanche is awarded British Empire Medal
Blanche was awarded a British Empire Medal for her outstanding work leading the care at our Brighton centre during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Blanche joined Blind Veterans UK six years ago as a nurse and two years later became the care manager for our Brighton centre. Her support throughout the pandemic has been fundamental to the care of our veterans. On Monday 9 August, a special ceremony was held at the Brighton centre where she was presented the award by the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex.
Blanche says:
"It’s an absolute honour to be presented with this award. Just to be nominated was amazing so I couldn’t believe it when I was told! Everyone has worked so hard during the pandemic to provide the best care for the veterans who are residents at the centre."

"When I was a student nurse, I did a placement at the centre and I absolutely loved it. I always knew that I wanted to come back. It’s great to hear the veterans' stories. All the staff are amazing as well."

"This is wonderful recognition of the role that Blanche has played, of her leadership and compassion and of the example that she has set, day in, day out over the last 16 months. Blanche would be the first person to say, and believe, that it should be an award to all the Brighton staff who have stepped up to the plate magnificently."

Thanks again to Blanche and all of our dedicated care team in Brighton!
