Thank you for your interest in volunteering

Thank you for taking the first step towards making a real difference to the lives of blind veterans.

You’re now on the path to joining a community of dedicated volunteers who help make everyday life better for the people we support.

Here’s what happens next

1. A member of our volunteering team will reach out

They’ll talk through the role you’re interested in, guide you through the application process, explain the vetting and background checks, and answer any questions you may have. You’ll be supported at every stage.

2. Complete your application and checks

We’ll help you complete the application and any checks needed for the role. These are an important part of making sure blind veterans receive safe, high-quality support.

3. Receive your training

Once your checks are complete, we’ll invite you to take part in the training you need to feel confident and ready. This may include:

  • role-specific guidance
  • safeguarding essentials
  • tips for supporting blind veterans effectively

4. Join our volunteer community

As part of our volunteer community, we’ll keep in touch and make sure you feel supported. You’ll receive:

  • our monthly volunteering newsletter with updates, stories, and opportunities
  • an invitation to our volunteer Facebook group, where you can connect with others
  • access to ongoing support from our team whenever you need it

5. We celebrate the difference volunteers make

We’re always grateful for the time, energy and care our volunteers give to support blind veterans.

Throughout your time with us, you’ll be part of a community that is recognised and appreciated in different ways. One of those is through our Founders Day Awards, which celebrate the difference volunteers make.

Frances was recognised with a Founders Award for helping bring a blind veteran’s memoirs to life.

" It's been wonderful. John's story is so compelling. As I typed, I was living his story. I felt like I was there. I laughed and I cried. It's been a great privilege and honour to have been involved."
