Member Ambassadors

Ambassador recruitment is now closed. New roles and training opportunities will be announced later this year, and we’ll keep filling existing posts as they open up.

No one can represent our charity better than you and talk about the challenges of living with sight loss. That's why we're looking for inspiring Member Ambassadors who can support us, raise our profile, and help spread the word about Blind Veterans UK.

We have a selection of different Member Ambassador roles available. Our National Ambassadors speak and steward guests at our national events, helping us to build lasting relationships that support our future. Our Standard Bearers and Buglers help uphold military tradition, and represent us all throughout the year.

Please note: The Ambassador scheme is only open to Members who have been registered with the charity for a minimum of 12 months.

Become an Ambassador

We are currently recruiting a limited number of Member Ambassadors into our National Ambassador, Standard Bearer, and Bugler roles near the following locations:

Edinburgh, Cardiff, Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Rustington, Belfast, Nottingham, London, Swindon, Portsmouth, and Plymouth.

If we are oversubscribed, we may require more information from you to make a fair decision.

National Ambassador

Our National Ambassadors are trained public speakers who share their experience of sight loss at our military dinners and other events.

We take on a limited number of new National Ambassadors each year, and encourage all Members who have public speaking skills - or are willing to learn - to register their interest. We cover reasonable travel expenses and you will attend a one-day public speaking course.

Standard Bearer

Steeped in military tradition, Standard Bearers bring a sense of grandeur and dignity to ceremonial events, also helping to raise awareness of Blind Veterans UK.

Our Standard Bearer roles are limited within the UK and only available to Members. We will provide full training and equipment and cover reasonable travel expenses.

Standard Bearing can be physically demanding and is not recommended to those aged 85 years or over, or anyone with a known medical condition.

Bugler

Can you play the Bugle, or would like to learn? Another unique and important part of military tradition, our Buglers are not only musicians that support Blind Veterans UK events, but they also help us to honour those lost at funerals and acts of Remembrance.

For this role, you will need to be able to access online instructor led tutorials and be in good physical health. This role may also require occasional travel.
